raisins

sweet succulent morsel
small dark brown diamonds
dance upon your tongue
you can feel the wrinkles
u chew
with appreciating love
a small money treat
for those who don’t have
providing sugar
in large amounts
for a reasonable price
when you have too
little to spend

diabetics beware!

Riot at the U.S. Capitol

MAGA is dead
at least we hope
Trump has conceded
but we must wait at least
5 minutes
to see whether he is telling
the truth or not
 i suppose he is
 the fire of impeachment
& removal
 are heating up his derriere
 the horror and
               pain is that it costs
              the lives
              five individuals
              including an ex-servicewoman
              and a police officer

we only hope the right wing
     is broken
     and the confederate flag
             the flag of slavery
            shall never be seen
            in the U.S. Capitol again

Deep Down

i know it’s a pandemic.
i know i’m poor.
i know i’m black/ African American.
and male
i live in the U.S.
despite having
           four degrees
i end up in a lot
            of student debt
there are no accolades.
               no
                 awards
                 medals
                 nor recognition
if i achieve things
                 like graduation
                 from law school
                 graduation from seminary
                 graduation from art school
                 graduation from college
                 i end up
                      failing the bar
                      unordained
i have yet to sell a painting.
                      and for the majority
                      of my post collegiate life
                          underemployed
                          unemployed
                          destitute
                          and on welfare

despite all of this
            i feel a deep pain.
            for not having
            become
            a success

that is if success can be
             measured in money.

The Alligator

Alligator skin
the irony of it
the back of my hand
looks like a lizard
large rough scales
the dryness
coupled with age
the veins have become
large and pronounced
the blueness of the veins
inching through the
dark brown of the
skin
speaks of
miscegenation or
just the myth
of color
of race
vaseline
will not work back
the problem
i wash my hands diligently.
to stop the spread of
Covid-19
and must ignore the
ugliness

Paper Plate

paper plate

lying on the

asphalt

a statement

on cleanliness

or pollution

the desperate need

for paper

recycle for the environment’s sake

for the earth’s sake

besides

we need something to write on

                                               9/20/20

George Floyd

What brought on the rage

When does one’s guts fill up with

hate until one cannot take it

                anymore

Eight minutes

        of breath was too little

        time

        to show distain

        for human life

What the hell

the white man wore a badge

          he will never get the

             death penalty

murder

       seems something U.S. police

     are capable of

       law enforcement escapes them

i gasp for breath

my nostrils long for the

fresh air of freedom

George Floyd

wherever you are

i want you to know

we the millions

who marched in

remembrance of

your name

will have that

breath of

fresh clean air
